This week we kicked off our Force and Motion unit.  Our topic of the day was push and pull.  We went outside and had a tug of war.  Our rope was a bit thin so it didn't last long.

A note was sent home on Friday regarding our book report and character dress up day.

We wrapped up our Nutrition unit by displaying our poster boards.  Students became the experts and were excited to share their learning with their classmates.

We kicked off our Motion unit by talking about Bike Safety.  We watched a Bill Nye bike safety movie and then made posters.  We held a classroom poster contest.  After we voted we had a tie for first place and a tie for second place.

We were treated to a Hansel and Gretel opera performance this week. This was a first time experience for many of our students.

We will be starting a unit on Geometry soon.  Please look around your home and find some 3D objects to send to school with your child.  The objects were are looking for are cubes, cones, spheres, cylinders, pyramids and rectangular prisms.

We celebrated Music Monday with a school assembly.  Our class formed a Kid Stix band and performed to the song Happy.  They did a fabulous job!

We have been working on some Mother's Day writing this week. I hope that you enjoy reading everything your child wrote!

We have finished our unit on Addition and Subtraction to 100.  Please continue to review addition and subtraction facts often with your child at home.  We will finish up our Measurement unit next week and then move on to Geometry.

Our class started a new read aloud novel called Rump by Liesl Shurtliff.  Ask your child what it's about so far!

This week we went on a field trip to the Floral Conservatory.  We learned many interesting things about different plants.  Ask your child what he/she learned!

April 20th - April 24th

In math we have started measuring objects.  We have learned that the shorter the unit is the longer the measurement is.  Practice measuring things at home using everyday objects as units! Remember the units need to be the same size. 

Author Marie Powell came to our school to share some of her books with us. She brought some songs and puppets too!  Many kids in our class have been checking her books out during library time.

Roughrider Dan Clark came to speak with us about bullying on Wednesday.  He taught us about different types of bullying and ways to deal with a bully.  He shared many personal stories that the kids really enjoyed listening to.

Spring is here and we can get outside and enjoy the weather! We are so

lucky to have a beautiful bike path and lake so close to our school,  

Spring walks are filled with many animal sightings and gorgeous scenery.  

This week we started working on a Nutrition Research Project.  Students are researching a topic in groups and will teach the class what they have learned.  Topics include Healthy Snacking and Reading Labels.  Ask your child what his/her topic is.  Here are some pictures of us working in our groups.

In Language Arts we have been studying non-fiction books.  We have learned many features that non-fiction books may have including a table of contents, index, glossary, and captions.  Grab a non-fiction book and let your child show you what he/she has learned!

This week in math we have been working on 2 digit subtraction.  We have been making up our own 2 digit subtraction stories to solve.  Keep working on 2 digit addition and subtraction at home with your child!

Wednesday April 22nd - Day of Pink.  Anti-bullying presentations taking place with a special guest.

Thursday April 23rd - Please send your ice cream cake order forms back today. Thank you for supporting our school by participating in this terrific fundraiser! Our school gets $10.00 for each cake sold!

March 30th - April 2nd

This week we read The Easter Egg by Jan Brett. We worked on a writing assignment that described what our special egg would look like.  Ask your child to tell you about his/her egg!

We practiced drawing rabbits and then painted them to take home for the break.
