September 26th - September 30th

It's hard to believe that it's already the last week of September!

This week we learned all about melting. We tried many interesting ways to melt ice cubes. We also worked with the concept of evaporation.

On Wednesday we had a Terry Fox assembly and went for our Terry Fox walk. We had a wonderful speaker who told her story about her battle with cancer. In class we watched this video about Terry Fox:

We have begun to assess the students reading now they are back into the school routine. Keep reading at home for enjoyment and take them to the library for some "Good Fit" books.

For theme the class has continued on with the Liquids and Solids units. At the beginning of the week we headed to the dance studio and danced to the song "Matter Is Everywhere". We also danced with feathers. Gases was introduced this week. I'm sure you all heard about the baking soda and vinegar experiment!! I will post pictures soon!!

Wow, it is already the middle of September!! It was nice to meet so many of you at the open house. Thank you to those who have returned letters to us about their child. It is wonderful to learn more about your child from your eyes! We are learning more about them each and every day too!

These last two weeks we have been working on the structure and routines in our classroom. We have established math groups and some of the students work with me while some of the students work with Mrs. Gilroy-Beck. We have been building our reading stamina and we have started to work on writing. We have a very creative and hardworking bunch this year.

For theme, Ms. Scherle has been teaching the students all about Liquids and Solids. They have done many cool experiments including a Liquid Race and Mixing Liquids. This seems to be their favourite and most exciting time of the day.

Just a reminder that we will be having Fun Friday this Friday. Your child may bring a game from home to play in the class.

Book orders are due on Friday September 16th.

I would like to get your email address so that I can send you a quick note or story about your child. I don’t always get the chance to write in the agenda and I remember things after your child is already gone. Please send me an email with your name and your child’s name as soon as you can. My email is shannon.sanchuck@rbe.sk.ca

I will be updating our blog on Friday with news and pictures from our classroom. Make sure you check it out every week. I prefer to keep you updated on the blog rather than sending paper newsletters. You can get to the blog through the school website or bookmark this link - http://mrssanchuck.blogspot.com/

Please email or call if you have any questions or concerns.
