May 20th - May 23rd

Sarah Haidey (Isabelle's mom and our SCC president) came in to talk to us about the pancake breakfast. Our class is working with the SCC to raise money for a new playground structure.  This is a great way to improve our community.  Our class is in charge of advertising and decorations.  We are also helping with the set up and clean up.  It would be fabulous if you could model the importance of volunteering and come help out!  Help is needed the night before (June 5th) to prep and set up.  Help is also needed the morning of the pancake breakfast.  Please return your note or send me an email if you and your child are available to help!!

Here are some of the signs you will see around the school!

Sarah asked the kids questions and rewarded them with candy if they shared an answer.  Thanks Sarah!

We are starting to wrap up our Genius Hour projects.  We are learning so much when working on these projects including organization.  Genius Hour is messy business!

We are still participating in the Run/Jump/Throw program.  Please ensure that your child is wearing running shoes on this day.  Sending a hat, sunscreen, and a waterbottle will help on these HOT days!

A big THANK YOU to the parents who helped out with special lunch.  Our class appreciates these special days and knows that you are the reason they exist!  Thank you!

May 12th - May 16th

As part of our community unit we did a playground garbage clean up.  At first some students weren't too thrilled about this task but they felt proud after they saw all of the garbage we collected.  Many have asked to do another clean up again.  It sure feels good to give back!

We are loving our Run/Jump/Throw program.   On Wednesday we learned about shot put and on Thursday we learned about hurdles.  Ask your child what he/she has learned!

After our dance on Thursday we had some quiet free time. Here are a few snapshots.

May 5th - May 9th

This week we have been busy working on Mother's Day projects.  Everyone chose to make something different.  I hope that you enjoy your Mother's Day weekend!

Some of our class played a fun game called "Guess My Sculpture" with playdoh. Some objects were very challenging to guess.

Our Genius Hour projects are almost complete.  Genius Hour is messy business! The process has been a great learning experience and I can't wait to see the final products.

We went on a community scavenger hunt and discovered many things including a deer!

On our walk we found this message on our school sign.  We DO have an amazing group of students at our school!   I feel very fortunate to come to school and teach your child every day!

April 28th - May 2nd

We have been working very hard in grade 2 this week!

In math we are working on a Measurement unit and a unit on Addition and Subtraction to 100.  You can help your child at home by practicing writing the days of the week and months of the year.   You can also practice some two digit addition with them.

Measuring in the classroom.

What is the length of this book?

Our school counselor came in and did a presentation about The Incredible Five Point Scale.  We talked about ways to calm yourself down if you are mad or sad.   I like using the scale in the classroom because it is easier for students to explain how they are feeling.   Mrs. Renwick will be doing another presentation that focuses on specific calming strategies for each student.

Here is the five point scale.

Here is a volcano that has erupted.

We had the opportunity to see our school musical called Night At The Movies.  It was a fabulous and entertaining show.

Students have been busy working on book reports and Genius Hour projects in the classroom.  Ask your child about it!  We had some grade six students come help us do some research.

Upcoming Dates:

Special lunch forms and book orders are due on Wednesday May 7th.

May 16th: No School (PD DAY)

Swimming lessons: May 14th, 21st, 26th, 28th, June 2nd, 4th.

Here are some pictures from before the break.  We were painting Easter eggs.
