February 23rd - February 27th

This week we finished our Data Analysis Unit.  Students learned how to collect data using check marks and tallies,  Students also learned how to graph the data that they collected.  We have learned lots of interesting facts about our class including our favourite sports and favourite chocolate bars.

We have started a new unit about Communities.  On Monday we used Google Earth to visit everyone's house.  We all thought this was pretty amazing!  We have been talking about our neighbourhood, city, province, and country.  Next week we will start building our own community in the classroom. Ask your child what he/she will be building!

As part of the Read-a-thon, Avery won a ride to class on the principal's chair.  The students in our class who participated in the Read-a-thon won a pizza party which will be on March 13th. If you didn't get a chance to participate you can still send a $10 donation for the playground and join the pizza party!

Upcoming Dates
March 5th and 6th - No School (PD day and Teacher Convention)
March 13th - Pizza Party for Read-a-thon participants.
March 20th - Report Card Day

February 9th - February 13th

Warning: This blog post contains many pictures!

We celebrated the 100th Day of School and Valentines Day this week!

On Monday we shared our mystery bottle homework.  The bottles were filled with 100 mystery objects.  It was fun reading the clues to try and solve the mystery! Thank you for your help at home with this project!

We used an app called Oldster to make us look like we were 100 years old.  Here are pictures of the kids who wanted to participate and share their pictures with you on the blog.

As part of 100 day we participated in Creation Stations.  We counted out 100 objects and then created a picture or sculpture using these objects.

We made some Pattern Hearts using pastels.

Here is what Valentine exchange looks like in our classroom.
We made some animal heart art.  Here are a few samples!

The Read-a-thon was a huge success!  Thank you to those who participated.  Our class raised $650 and read for over 15000 minutes!  We won the pizza party for reading the most minutes! Our pizza party will be on March 13th.  Congratulations to Torin who won a gift card to Chapters. Congratulations to Danielle who won a gift card to DQ.  Congratulations to Avery who won a ride to class on Mr. Clarke's chair. Our school raised around $7000 to go towards a new playground structure. THANK YOU!  (If you didn't have a chance to contribute to the Read-a-thon yet you can still do so after the break.)

Thank you for all of the kind words, cards and gifts for Teacher Appreciation week and Valentines Day.  I am very fortunate to have such an amazing group of students and parents.  Our class is fantastic and I love spending my days with these rock stars!
