Good Bye To Ms. Scherle

Ms. Scherle has been with us since the beginning of the year and she will be returning to the University of Regina for her last semester in January. We loved all of the wonderful things she did in the classroom. Check out the voicethread that the students made to see some of their favourite memories with Ms. Scherle! There are many pictures too!

Check it out!

December 5th - December 9th

This week we spent a lot of time getting ready for the Christmas concert. I hope you enjoyed the show. The kids did a great job.

In the classroom we continued working on the beaver life cycle. The students are making a beaver life cycle poster. Next week we will focus on the beaver homes.

In Language Arts we are working on paragraph writing. The students are all starting to show a lot of growth in their writing. We are also discovering and exploring adjectives. Ask your child what an adjective is! We will continue to learn more about adjectives next week.

The school was filled with many activities this week including candy cane sales, Santa photos, and special lunch. Thank you to our special lunch parent helpers! We all appreciate the time you took to volunteer in our classroom.

Next week we will be having a Winter Wonderland dance on Friday December 16th in the afternoon.

I also wanted to let you know that we have a Outdoor Winter Ecology trip booked for January 17th. The trip will be from 10-3. I will send more details about what we will be doing later. If you want to volunteer for this outdoor adventure please let me know! This trip is always a memorable trip!!

Please send all hamper items by Monday December 12th! Thank you for your generosity!

November 28th - December 1

December News

Animals will continue to be our theme for the month of December. This week the students learned all about the characteristics of a beaver. We started talking about the beavers life cycle and we will continue this next week.

Our PWIM poster is focusing on Kids Who Care. The title that was chosen for the picture was "Grady To The Rescue". Over the next few weeks the students will complete their paragraphs to go along with the poster. Night and light were words shaken out of our poster. Students have been working with the "ight" family.

In reading the students are working on their goals during Daily 5. Some students have been working on accuracy, some on expanding vocabulary, and some have been working on comprehension. Questioning has been the main whole class comprehension strategy. We have also been using Digger the Dog (determining important ideas) in our beaver reading.

We are moving right along in math groups. Some groups have started the unit Addition and Subtraction to 100 while others are wrapping up Addition and Subtraction to 18.

We are trying to collect items to make a Christmas food hamper. Please check out the poster on our door when you come to the concert on Tuesday.

There are many school activities planned in December. These will be posted on the school blog but I thought that I would add them here for you too!
