November 24th - November 28th

Thank you to those who attended conferences on Friday.  Many great conversations were had.  I'm looking forward to meeting with the rest of you next week.

This week we had a fabulous trip to the MacKenzie Art Gallery to see the Wilf Perreault exhibit.  He has done many beautiful back alley pictures.  Part of the grade 2 curriculum is creating art expressing our community.  We have been using our watercolours to paint some pictures of our own communities. We have a classroom full of artists!

November 17th - November 21st

We shared some more pigeon books this week.  I will set these out next Friday and you can check them out before or after your conference.  They all did a fabulous job!

We finished reading the novel My Father's Dragon.  We can't wait to read the next one in the series. We are writing a response to the novel.  Who wants to write in a desk?  Check out all of the places we choose to write.

We are getting ready for our MacKenzie Art Gallery trip.  We have been studying Wilf Perreault's style of painting.  We collected some pictures from our community and have practiced drawing them. It was challenging!

Here are some kids practicing their spelling during wordwork.

We have talked more about our Genius Hour projects this week.  Everyone has come up with a few ideas about things they want to learn about.  Some topics that have come up include space, rocks and minerals and making movies.

We are almost done our math unit called Numbers to 100.  We will be starting a new unit next week called Addition and Subtraction to 18.  You can help your child by practicing these facts at home.  If they already know them you can practice facts up to 100!

I am looking forward to seeing you at the conference on Friday!

November 12th - 14th

This three day week just flew by!

This week we continued to talk about filling others buckets by saying and doing nice things.  We wrote messages to each other and faces lit up when the messages were read.  We have our own buckets so people can continue to write messages to us!

We have been working on inferring by looking at pictures.  We discuss observations and then infer what is happening based on our observations.  Inferring is an important strategy that all readers use.

The new novel that we are reading is called My Father's Dragon.  Words to describe this book so far include funny, cool, neat, awesome and entertaining!

We started talking about Genius Hour this week.  This is a time in our class that students can learn about a certain subject that they are interested in.  You will hear more about Genius Hour soon! Many interesting topics have been discussed in our classroom.  We have been working in I WONDER books and some interesting wonders have come up!
