Janaury 9th - 13th

We have had a super productive week! Our class is back into the structure and routine after the winter break.

We started the week by writing some wonderful paragraphs. In December we started to learn about adjectives. I can see that adjectives are being added to many of our paragraphs. We have been making lists to help plan our writing and we have been using something called a 5 finger plan to help form our thoughts. Our class is filled with amazing authors! Our authors just need to remember to check their work over for any mistakes (capitals, periods and spelling).

We have shaken words out of our new PWIM picture. This week we started to study "ee" words. We are compiling a list at school. Keep looking for new words to add to our list!

This week we started to work on the reading comprehension strategy called "Making Predictions". A prediction is a good guess about what will happen next. We learned that when you make a prediction you need to use the information that is given and you need to use your schema (background knowledge)as well. You need to put the information together and ask yourself whether the prediction makes sense. We will continue to work on this strategy in the classroom during read alouds and Daily 5. Good readers THINK when they read!

I hope that you all received the note about our Outdoor Adventure. We will be making two fires and roasting hotdogs and marshmallows. Here are the new items that we need for the trip:
- hotdogs (maximium of two)
- buns with condiments put on at home
- roasters (if you have them)
- dryer lint (if you have any)
- marshmallows for roasting
- small plastic bag to use as a garbage
- trail mix (optional)

On Friday we attended the school spelling bee. Some of the words were our PWIM words!

Next week:
We will continue to work on paragraph writing, studying "ee" words during wordwork, and making predictions when reading. We will start wrapping up our addition and subtraction to 100 unit in math. Keep working on the drill and practice at home. Our Outdoor Adventure will be on Tuesday January 17th. I can't wait to see everyone's paragraphs about our trip! It sounds like Fred has some fun things for us to do.

Please continue to check the school website for more information and happenings. There is some information about Family Literacy Day which is on January 27th.
