January 16th - January 20th

Brrr! Due to the cold weather we have had many indoor recesses this week. We are all looking forward to warmer weather so that the kids can get out and play. We are so fortunate to have the walking track as part of our school. We visited the walking track a few times this week to burn off some energy!! The kids enjoyed the movement!

On Monday we had a visit from our school counselor Mrs. Thomas. She is working with our class doing a "Train Your Brain" program. She will be with us for the next 6 Mondays. This week we learned about the brain and next week we will be doing some listening activities. The students came up with many interesting questions about the brain so we are researching to find out some of their answers.

On Tuesday our field trip was cancelled. We had a few disappointed students but they were happy to hear that we have rescheduled the trip for February 7th. We looked at some Ted Harrison books and we created some pieces of art that are similar to his. Art was almost as fun as the field trip!

We have been practicing spelling our PWIM words. We had a mock spelling test to see what words we needed to practice. So far we have studied "ee" words and silent K words such as knee, know and knife. The students are becoming more aware about how words work. We are working on transferring this knowledge into their writing!

Over the next few weeks, Mrs. Wilkie has invited us to the library to listen to her read some of the Willow book nominations. After she is done reading them to us the students will get the chance to vote on their favourite.

Next week:
No School on Friday January 27th
