September 10th - September 14th

It was so nice to see so many of you at the Open House on Thursday night.  I hope that you took the time to read through the handout.  Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns with the information provided.

This class has surprised me with their reading stamina this year!  They have worked extremely hard  this week and they are all reading at 15 minutes during Read to Self!  This is quite an accomplishment for the second week of school!  Next week I will introduce the cycle called Work on Writing.  This is separate from our weekly journal writing.

We have shaken all of our PWIM words out and came up with a title called Nature.  Next week we will start studying and sorting the words.

We have been working on a Pattern unit in math.  Some of the vocabulary we are using has been core, element, attribute, repeat, and extend.  You can help your child at home by making patterns with everyday objects (coins, fruitloops etc).  Remember that the pattern core must repeat three times in order for it to be a pattern.  Ask your child what an attribute is and see if they can explain it to you!  We worked on making a train today with one changing attribute.

This week we have been talking about kindness in the classroom.  We have a few new students in our classroom and it is kind to make them feel welcome.

We are going to be starting an animal study next week.  We will be researching and writing about many different types of animals.

Mrs. Renwick came for a visit this week.  She is our new school counsellor this year.

Important Dates:
Tuesday September 18th : Book Orders Due
Wednesday September 19th: Picture Day

Please write to word MONKEY in your child's agenda once you have read this blog!
