September 29th - October 3rd

This week we wrote about our Play doh creations.  Ask your child what he or she created and wrote about!

This week we introduced Listen to Reading in our Daily 5 cycles.  Students are all set up on RAZ kids and know their passwords.  You can login to RAZ kids at home.  The teacher username is ssanchuck.

We continued blogging this week and a few more blogs have been published! Your child can also blog at home too.  All blogs get emailed to me and I approve them before they get published.  We have talked about what information can and can't go on their blogs.

In math we have started a new unit called Numbers to 100.  We have been practicing counting by 2's 5's and 10's.  Here is a song that we have been listening to in our classroom that helps us count! We have been using number lines and one hundred charts to help with counting.  You can help your child at home by practicing counting by 2's, 5's and 10's. For example, you can ask your child to count forwards by 2's starting at 76 and stopping at 94.  You can also ask them to count backwards.

You may have heard about this mystery envelope that is hanging up in our classroom.  Everyone is excited to find out what is inside!

Mr. MacKenzie celebrated his 87th birthday this week.  We had a special assembly in the gym and shared some songs.  Our SCC also provided us with some cupcakes to enjoy after the assembly!

In science we have started learning about researching by reading nonfiction text. We are working on a class research project about bats.  Students are examining what they know about bats, what they were right about, what misconceptions they had, what new learning they have and any wonders that they still have. Students will get the opportunity to work on their own research project about an animal of their choice next!

In case you were wondering about library: Your child is able to exchange library books on Day 1, 4, and 5.  (A calendar of days is in the front of the agenda).
